Article

CHICAGO -- The American Society for Healthcare Environmental Services (ASHES) and Language Solutions, LLC have made available to ASHES members English on the Job, a tool that helps to increase the English competency level of environmental services (ES) staff and addresses the challenges many healthcare organizations face to ensure their ES staff accurately communicate with managers, co-workers, customers, and patients.

A first for ES staff, this training tool integrates traditional language training materials with interactive voice recognition training software, and has been proven to increase language comprehension, job task performance and safety for ES workers. ASHES members receive a discount when purchasing the tool.

Barry S. Baer, president of Language Solutions, LLC, will present a case study at this years ASHES annual conference in Nashville, Sept. 24-28, 2006. As part of his case study, Baer will discuss the new challenges arising with employment of non-native, non-English speaking or English as a second language staff.
