ASHES Members Raise Funds for Local Charity

Article

CHICAGO -- Conference attendees from the American Society for Healthcare Environmental Services (ASHES) donated $1,256.94 to the Society of St. Vincent De Paul – San Antonio Chapter (SVDP). As part of the ASHES 4th Annual Hearts and Hands Event, attendees were asked to donate $1 each in order to raise funds for this local charity.  Sodexo Health Care Services and Wexford Labs, both ASHES sponsors, matched the donations raised. With the help of the ASHES member, Sodexo and Wexford Labs, the grand total raised for SVDP was $3,770.82.

“Every day good people wake up and try to make a difference in the world. The Hearts and Hands Event at the annual conference gives the people that make up the ASHES organization an opportunity to make a difference in areas close to home” said Tina Cermignano, CHESP, the 2008 ASHES president.

Cermignano presented the donation to Ruben Diaz, chairman of the SVDP board of directors at the awards dinner during the ASHES annual conference in San Antonio.

SVDP provides a wide variety of services to assist those in need. One of the services is the St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room located near downtown San Antonio,. At this location, three nutritious meals are served Monday to Saturday and two meals are served on Sunday. Thousands of meals are served to homeless and hungry men, women and children each year.  Since starting the St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room in November 1985, more than four million meals have been served.
