Article

Medical Device and Diagnostic Industry magazine has recognized three medical devices manufactured by B. Braun Medical Inc. as being among the most influential medical devices of the last 30 years.

B. Braun’s Outlook® Safety Infusion System, PINNACLE® TPN Management System and EXCEL® and PAB® IV Containers were all recognized in the magazine’s 30 Years, 30 Devices special commemorative issue.

“It truly is a great honor that B. Braun has contributed to the industry’s advancement in infusion therapy,” said Eric Steen, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for B. Braun Medical Inc. “In developing these and all other B. Braun products, we continuously seek innovative ways to translate our customer’s needs into products with unmatched quality, cost-effectiveness, environmental responsibility and safety.”

B. Braun’s EXCEL® and PAB® IV Containers represented major advancements in environmental responsibility in the healthcare industry as the only PVC-free, DEHP-free containers available with a full range of basic IV solutions.

The company’s Outlook® Safety Infusion System incorporates a host of innovations pioneered by B. Braun on its infusion devices, which were among the first to include a dose rate calculator (1992), an integrated programmable drug library (1994), an integrated barcode scanner to automate programming via barcodes and an internal wireless card to enable bi-directional wireless communication of pump data (2003). For three consecutive years, B. Braun has also earned the highest customer ratings and “Best in KLAS” status for its smart pump technology based on KLAS’s 2008 Top 20 Best in KLAS Report for Smart Pump Technology.

B. Braun’s PINNACLE® TPN (total parenteral nutrition) Management System represented a significant advancement in automated compounding technology, incorporating the most rigorous safety verification system available. The PINNACLE® System was awarded the 2007 Gold Medical Device Excellence Award (MDEA), one of the medical device industry's most prestigious design awards.

“B. Braun’s revolutionary ideas, products and technology help advance healthcare quality and enhance the practice of medical professionals,” said John Grimm, director of device R&D (U.S.) for B. Braun Medical Inc.
