The Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) has awarded the AORN Seal of Recognition to education materials developed by Cardinal Health.
"Behind the Mask: Your Complete Guide to Facial Protection, produced by Cardinal Health, is an educational program to help the surgical team to better understand patient and employee safety during surgery. The in-service investigates the clinical need for facial protection and reviews essential information regarding facial protection from regulatory organizations and industry associations.
The session provides guidance for selecting the appropriate procedural mask by investigating the 4Fs of facial protection: filtration, fit, fluid resistance and fog reduction, and addresses the role of facial protection in avoiding occupational hazards such as laser plume and body fluid. Cardinal Healths education material includes the introduction of its Smart-Seal surgical mask with a new cinch and hug single tie fit.
The AORN Seal of Recognition confirms that the content of training and in-service programs and materials has undergone thorough review by AORN and meets the guidelines set forth in AORNs Perioperative Standards and Recommended Practices. While not a product endorsement, the Seal of Recognition demonstrates that the promotional and informative material related to a product or services has met AORN guidelines.
Perioperative nurses rely on healthcare industry representatives to teach proper use of products and services that will be used in and around the operating room.
"The education materials submitted by Cardinal Health are informative and meet the associations standards for excellence in safe patient care," says Joan Blanchard, MSS, BSN, RN, CNOR, CIC, perioperative nursing specialist, AORN. "Perioperative nurses can be confident in the content of these education materials."
To assist the perioperative community in selecting quality training activities that promote safety and optimal outcomes for patients undergoing operative and other invasive procedures, AORN has created a directory of materials and activities that have been awarded the AORN Seal of Recognition.
