Cardinal Health Endura Surgical Scrubs Win Award

Article

Cardinal Health today announced that its line of Endura™ Performance Apparel was honored with a Red Dot Product Design award at the largest global design competition, the Red Dot Award.

The Red Dot Awards recognize the best in product design, communication design and design concepts. Winners of the product design award are evaluated according to criteria such as innovation, functionality and durability.

Endura high-performance, custom-fit performance apparel is the first innovation in surgical scrubs since the 1960s and marks Cardinal Health’s entry into the surgical scrubs market. Constructed from an advanced, synthetic material that is abrasion- and tear-resistant, Endura performance apparel is designed to be breathable, flexible and helps control heat index and perspiration. Its Active Moisture Management™ technology regulates body temperature by wicking excess moisture from the surface of the skin, and its exclusive Maximum Motion Sleeve™ is designed to allow the wearer a full range of motion that allows the shirt to stay tucked into the pants even when surgical staff reach and stretch.

The Endura performance apparel line also has a unique snap system along the hem of its pants that allows wearers to customize length. And its “smart pockets” are angled to prevent items from spilling out in sitting or standing positions.

“Cardinal Health collaborated with a panel of nurses and doctors to design a superior line of comfortable, durable scrubs that let our customers from ORs to ERs and everywhere in between focus on what they’re doing and not what they’re wearing,” said Tom Kapfer, president of category management for Cardinal Health’s Medical Segment. “We’re very pleased that the design experts on the Red Dot panel recognized the quality and unique value of what we created.”

This year, the design competition received 12,000 submissions from more than 60 countries for its three categories of Red Dot awards.

Beginning in July, the award-winning products will be on display in the Red Dot design museum in Essen, Germany, for a one-year term.

In addition to the Red Dot award, Endura Performance Apparel was also named a 2009 winner of the Excellence in Surgical Products Award and has been featured in Fast Company magazine and Design Net magazine.
