Cardinal Health Highlights Nurse Education at AORN Surgical Conference and Expo

Cardinal Health will highlight ongoing education and training at the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Surgical Conference and Expo in Denver being held March 8-10, 2015.

The company will host four continuing education (CE) activities, each approved for two CE credits and provided by Pfiedler Enterprises with grant funds provided by Cardinal Health. The following courses will be offered in the Cardinal Health CE theater at booth 1414 on Monday, March 9, and Tuesday March 10:

Powdered surgical gloves: Is it time for a change? - As perioperative nurses scrutinize the potential risks to patients and clinicians associated with the use of powdered gloves, this continuing education activity will review key factors influencing the momentum toward the use of powder-free surgical gloves, including regulatory and professional recommendations, advances in powder-free glove manufacturing and coating technologies, and clinical and economic benefits.

Effective Operating Room Inventory Management - This continuing education activity will provide the perioperative nurse with information on ways to improve inventory management in the operating room. It will review the challenges and opportunities associated with effective supply management and provide specific strategies on product standardization, inventory management and reduction, reduction of waste, data analysis and improved physician preference card management.

The following courses will be offered as a booklet handout, at booth #1414 on Monday, March 9, and Tuesday March 10, while supplies last:

AAMI levels and surgical gowns; know if you're protected - This continuing education booklet will provide a review of the key considerations for the appropriate selection and use of surgical gowns as an infection prevention measure for both patients and the surgical team, including federal agency and professional organization standards and guidelines. The booklet also provides a case study with the opportunity to synthesize the information and evaluate a workplace scenario related to surgical gown selection and use.

Principles of Bone Cement and the Process of Bone Cement Mixing  - This continuing education booklet provides a review of key concepts regarding composition, properties and types of bone cements and factors that affect bone cement polymerization. The course will also describe the evolution of mixing and application techniques, appropriate use of bone cement, and safety considerations for patients and members of the surgical team.

Aside from CEs, the Cardinal Health booth will also have a photo booth donation station to raise funds for Wounded Warrior Project®. The Cardinal Health Foundation will donate $5 to Wounded Warrior Project on behalf of each attendee visiting the photo booth. Wounded Warrior Project will be providing wrist bands to donors.

Attendees can also visit the Cardinal Health booth on Sunday, March 8 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., or on Monday, March 9, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. to learn more about RNspire, the Cardinal Health nurse appreciation program.
