A video emphasizing the importance of proper hand hygiene is the winner of the fourth annual Film Festival at the 41st Annual Conference of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC).
The winning video, created by Norton Healthcare and titled, “Today, I Vow,” features healthcare professionals pledging to practice proper hand hygiene in all aspects of their day.
Other submissions to the film festival took a humorous look at influenza vaccination with a conference of flu viruses rallying to create a more destructive flu season; one used claymation to illustrate the World Health Organization’s 5 moments of hand hygiene; and another teaches how to conduct proper hand hygiene with the use of the ABCs.
“The team at Norton Healthcare created a video that makes you stand up and take notice with its powerful message and compelling imagery,” says Nancy Zanotti, RN, BSN, MPH, CIC, APIC 2014 Annual Conference Committee Chair. “This was chosen as the winner for its great potential as an educational tool in hospitals.”
APIC Annual Conference attendees will have the chance to view all of the video submissions and vote for the People’s Choice winner to be presented at the closing plenary on June 9. The videos were submitted by health facilities in Arizona, California, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Montana, South Carolina, Utah, and Washington, among others.
The APIC 2014 Annual Conference, June 7-9 in Anaheim, California, is the most comprehensive infection prevention conference in the world, with 100 educational sessions and workshops led by infection prevention experts and attended by more than 3,000 individuals. The conference aims to provide infection preventionists with tools and strategies that are easily adaptable and can be implemented immediately to improve prevention programs. The Twitter hashtag #APIC2014 is being used for the meeting.
