The Joint Commission Resources (JCR), a not-for-profit affiliate of The Joint Commission, and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) today announced that their book, Best Practices in Infection Prevention and Control: An International Perspective, Second Edition, has earned a perfect five-star rating from Doody Enterprises.
Best Practices provides a thorough analysis of Joint Commission International (JCI) infection prevention and control (IPC) requirements as well as case studies, and tips and tools for increasing IPC compliance and patient safety.

Doodys reviewer Kathleen A. De Roos, MSN, APRN, of the VA Midwest Health Care Network, praised the book as extremely useful and as an excellent resource for guiding IPC programs and readiness for JCI surveys. Only eight percent of titles reviewed by Doodys garner a five-star rating, signifying an exceptional publication with nearly flawless execution.

The book was edited by Barbara M. Soule, RN, MPA, CIC, FSHEA, practice leader for infection prevention and control services at JCR and JCI; Ziad A. Memish, MD, FACP, FRCPC, FRCPE, FIDSA, deputy minister of health for Saudi Arabia, and director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Mass Gathering Medicine; and Preeti N. Malani, MD, MSJ, associate professor of medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School and research scientist at the VA Ann Harbor Healthcare System Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center.

Published in 2012, the second edition of Best Practices contains forewords by Joint Commission president and CEO Mark R. Chassin, MD, FACP, MPP, MPH, and SHEA president Steven M. Gordon, MD.

The Best Practices review will be among the reviews that Doody Enterprises sends to more than 300,000 health care and health information professionals through a weekly e-mail service and personalized web pages. Doodys estimates that more than 1 million people worldwide regularly consult its book reviews.
