Article

As part of an ongoing commitment to deliver high-quality clinical education, Kimberly-Clark announces Managing the Spectrum: Infection Prevention for Acute & Ambulatory Settings, to be held Nov. 8-9, 2012. The seminar will be held at the Crowne Plaza Atlanta Perimeter at Ravinia in Atlanta.

The symposium will address the diverse aspects of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and provide healthcare professionals with the latest evidence-based HAI prevention strategies and best practices from national experts in infection prevention. This educational opportunity is sponsored by Pfiedler Enterprises.

The targeted audience is healthcare professionals in acute and ambulatory care settings where there is risk for infection, including perioperative nurses, infection control practitioners, intensive care specialists, surgical technologists and others who play a role in preventing HAIs.

The seminar will offer 10.0 contact hours.  Following the seminar, participants will be able to:
- Articulate the spectrum of disease transmission and prevention strategies on an international and domestic perspective.
- Identify new developments in the epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Clostridium difficile infections (CDI).
- Outline steps to mitigate risk associated with the role of the environment in HAIs and articulate how collaboration across the continuum of care reduces adverse events.

Invited faculty includes members of the Joint Commission, NIOSH, AORN, ACS Compliance Advisory Group and the Center for Transforming Healthcare. Presentations and panel discussions feature internationally recognized speakers including:
- Barbara M. Soule, RN, MPA, CIC, practice leader, Infection Prevention Services, Joint Commission Resources/Joint Commission International
- Debra Novak, RN, DSN, senior service fellow, Centers for Disease Control, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, National Personal Protective Technology Lab
- Victoria Nahum, executive director, Safe Care Campaign

Nationwide efforts by leading healthcare organizations, accreditation bodies, professional societies and industry continue to make progress in decreasing the incidence of HAIs, but more can always be done. Speakers will address issues from an international to local perspective, from standards to best practices, and specific personal protective technologies. Sessions are designed to address the diverse aspects of HAIs, providing concrete strategies and tools for preventing HAIs in healthcare settings.
