New Invention Turns Personal Computers Into Air Purifiers

Seal Shield LLC announces the debut of AeroShield PC Enclosure and Air Purification System. Developed for the healthcare market, the AeroShield is the world's first computer enclosure designed for infection prevention. Utilizing Airocide technology developed by NASA, the AeroShield is designed to destroy organic pathogens in the air while cooling and filtering the air, protecting healthcare patients and practitioners from dangerous airborne pathogens.  

According to Seal Shield's vice president of technology, Christian Davis, "Electronics use ambient air for cooling. As such, these devices take in contaminated air, incubate airborne pathogens and redistribute the infected air back into the environment. This poses a risk to the electronics and creates a troublesome cross contamination point for healthcare workers and their patients."

A study published by the National Library of Medicine found "MRSA was recirculated among the patients, the air, and the inanimate environments, especially when there was movement in the rooms. Airborne MRSA play a role in MRSA colonization in the nasal cavity or in respiratory tract MRSA infections. To prevent airborne transmission, healthcare staff should exercise great care to disinfect inanimate environments."

The new AeroShield PC Enclosure was demonstrated at the HiMSS healthcare show in Orlando, Fla.
