PDI, a leader in infection prevention products and solutions for healthcare and community settings, recently hosted its fourth-annual Be The Difference™ Day, a company-wide initiative dedicated to giving back to local communities. Along with sister company Nice-Pak, Inc., PDI associates at its Orangeburg, N.Y., headquarters this year assembled hygiene kits and survival bracelets for service men and women, and held a food drive for Legacy X Food Box, a local food shelter in Rockland County, N.Y.
"As a global organization, PDI is honored to give back to communities both local and abroad that have supported our mission to help save lives, make a difference in everyday infection prevention and promote high standards of public health," says Zachary Julius, chief executive officer of PDI.
Rockland County officials formally recognized Be The Difference™ Day on June 18, 2012 in honor of the company's 35-year history of social and economic impact on the local community. The packages and funds will be donated in the name of PDI's associates who strive to Be The Difference™ every day in infection prevention and targeting zero preventable infections.
Together, PDI and Nice-Pak associates assembled 500 hygiene kits and created 250 survival bracelets for service men and women. The survival bracelets are made of braided parachute cord, which can be unraveled in an emergency situation to provide 8 feet of rope and hold up to 550 pounds. The supplies will be shipped by Operation Gratitude as part of a larger care package to new recruits, veterans, first responders, wounded warriors, care givers and individually named U.S. Service Members deployed overseas.
In addition to the care package items, thousands of dollars of food was donated by associates in support of Legacy X Food Box, along with a cash donation made by the company. In addition to Be The Difference™ Day, PDI and Nice-Pak support many local community agencies in Rockland County as part of its mission to be active participants in the communities in which it operates.
