3M Partners with Premier on Purchasing Agreement for Catheter Securement and Stability Products

Article

3M Critical & Chronic Care Solutions announces that it has reached a group purchasing agreement with healthcare alliance company Premier, Inc. for multiple catheter securement and stability products. In a move aimed at bringing greater economic efficiencies to Premier’s more than 100,000 healthcare provider members, the new agreement allows them to take advantage of special pricing and terms pre-negotiated by Premier. The purchasing contract covers products including Tegaderm™ CHG Chlorhexidine Gluconate I.V. Securement Dressings and Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement Dressings as well as the 3M™ PICC/CVC Securement Device + Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement Dressing, a sutureless securement system.

“We’ve been very impressed with Premier’s work improving quality health care by facilitating better and more cost-effective patient outcomes,” says Brent Ashton, global business director for 3M Critical & Chronic Care Solutions. “The products covered by this purchasing agreement offer a unique mix of versatility and reliability, applying 3M’s expertise in transparent films and adhesives to improve patient care and safety, clinician confidence and overall cost of care. Collectively, they address the full securement and stability needs of providers and their patients.”

Unlike many of the single-purpose products previously covered by Premier’s purchasing agreement with a competitor, the products included in the new agreement with 3M were designed to accommodate multiple catheter types. For example, the PICC/CVC Securement System accommodates the majority of PICC and short-term CVC catheters with diameters up to and including 12 French, and comes in a single package containing a dressing and a device to simplify product selection. In addition, it uses state-of-the-art 3M technology that not only provides reliable adhesion, but removes more gently from skin than the product it replaces on the Premier contract. This may reduce the need for supplementary products like alcohol that were previously needed to remove the competitor’s products. Providers may not only reduce costs associated with ordering, stocking and training, but may also improve patient care, potentially reducing the number of dressing changes and restarts.

Tegaderm™ CHG Dressings combine the most critical elements of I.V. site care into a single product, offering antimicrobial protection, catheter securement, site visibility and breathability. Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement Dressings are comprehensively designed to deliver exceptional patient care by providing effective catheter securement, seven day wear time, gentle removal and excellent moisture management. Additionally, the 3M PICC/CVC Securement Device + Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement Dressing, a sutureless securement system, provides both patient comfort and reliable IV catheter securement that was found to be equally or more effective than competing devices and sutures when evaluated by clinicians in 19 facilities. The system is designed to stay in place for up to seven days, yet removes gently to deliver the reliable adhesion and comfort patients deserve.
