AAMI Honors Eight for Contributions to Healthcare Technology Field

The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), an organization that represents a diverse community of nearly 7,000 healthcare technology professionals, has saluted eight professionals for their efforts to move the healthcare technology industry forward.

Each year, AAMI honors leaders, visionaries, and innovators who have made a positive difference in healthcare technology. This year’s recipients have diverse interests and areas of expertise, but share one common value: a commitment to excellence. The winners received their awards at the AAMI 2014 Conference & Expo, which took place May 31 through June 2, 2014 in Philadelphia.

The eight award winners are:

AAMI Foundation’s Laufman-Greatbatch Award:  Matthew B. Weinger, MD, Professor and Vice Chair at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.
This is AAMI's most prestigious award. Named after two pioneers in the field-Harold Laufman, MD, and Wilson Greatbatch, PhD-this highly regarded award honors an individual or group that has made a unique and significant contribution to the advancement of healthcare technology and systems, service, patient care, or patient safety.

AAMI Foundation & ACCE’s Robert L. Morris Humanitarian Award: Ismael Cordero, Biomedical Services Manager at Gradian Health Systems in New York
This award-honoring the late humanitarian Robert Morris-recognizes individuals or organizations whose humanitarian efforts have applied healthcare technology to improving global human conditions.

AAMI Foundation & Institute for Technology in Health Care’s Clinical Solution Award: Robert D. Butterfield, Engineering Research Fellow at CareFusion
This award honors a healthcare technology professional (individual or group) that has applied innovative clinical engineering practices or principles to solve one or more significant clinical patient care problems or challenges facing a patient population, community, or group.   

AAMI & Becton Dickinson’s Patient Safety Award: Mark E. Bruley, CCE, Vice President for Accident and Forensic Investigation at ECRI Institute
This award recognizes outstanding achievements by healthcare professionals who have made a significant advancement toward the improvement of patient safety.

AAMI’s HTM Leader of the Year: Patrick K. Lynch, CCE, CBET, MBA, Biomedical Support Specialist at GMI (Global Medical Imaging)
This award recognizes individual excellence, achievement, and leadership in the healthcare technology management (HTM) profession.

AAMI and GE Healthcare’s BMET of the Year Award: Petty Officer First Class Chad Sinclair, U.S. Navy This award is given to a biomedical equipment technician (BMET) to recognize individual dedication, achievement, and excellence in the field of healthcare technology management.

AAMI’s Young Professional Award:  Shelly Crisler, CCE, Biomedical Engineer with the Department of Veterans Affairs  in St. Louis
This award is presented annually to a professional, under the age of 40, who exhibits exemplary professional accomplishments and a commitment to the healthcare profession.

The Spirit of AAMI Award: Alan Lipschultz, CCE, PE, CSP, President of HealthCare Technology Consulting in North Bethesda, Md.
 This award recognizes the outstanding contributions of an AAMI member in volunteer efforts within the association.
