Ansell Unveils New Protection Solutions at AORN Conference

Article

Ansell announces that it will introduce and demonstrate several new safety innovations at the upcoming 61st Annual AORN (Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses) Surgical Congress and Expo in Chicago. Ansell will be represented at booth #3823 and will introduce the following innovations:

- GAMMEX® Non-Latex PI Textured White glove: The newest member of the Company’s synthetic polyisoprene surgical glove family. The glove delivers all the performance characteristics of natural rubber latex without the risk of natural rubber latex sensitization. These gloves feature a textured finish for superior grip and exceptional reliability when using instruments that require greater gripping capability.

- GAMMEX® Non-Latex Sensitive glove: This surgical glove is made with the revolutionary SENSOPRENE® formulation. The new SENSOPRENE non-latex, chemical accelerator-free formulation delivers advanced allergy protection (both latex and chemical allergies) for healthcare workers and patients. SENSOPRENE Formulation is up to 30% thinner than standard surgical gloves, while maintaining glove strength, to provide an unprecedented level of sensitivity and comfort for healthcare workers worldwide.

- SharpsRink™ Neutral Zone: A neutral zone solution from Ansell that helps improve safety for the surgical team by designating a clearly-defined area on the sterile field for placement of sharp instruments. In addition to providing compliance with OSHA, AORN, and the American College of Surgeons, SharpsRink supports environmental sustainability and green initiatives. SharpsRink is completely reusable and ideal for facilities looking to reduce waste in the OR.

- MICRO-TOUCH® Micro-Thin Nitrile Exam glove: The new Micro-Thin glove is the Company’s thinnest nitrile glove film, constructed with an advanced stretch formulation that delivers the ultimate in comfort and fit. Exhibiting high-strength and superior protection features, the Micro-Thin glove provides healthcare workers with confidence to administer excellent patient care. In addition to excellent physical properties, the Micro-Thin gloves are packaged 300 pieces per box, to provide operational efficiencies in the supply chain and reduce packaging waste into the environment.

“Ansell is a global perioperative safety leader and continually paves the way in innovation to provide clinically relevant and fully-customizable solutions to our customers,” says Anthony López, president and general manager, of Ansell's Medical Global Business Unit and Latin America Region. “We are focused on protecting healthcare workers and patients, and offer a suite of perioperative safety devices that provide peace of mind.”

In addition to a dedication in providing innovative protection solutions, Ansell is also dedicated to continuing education, providing continuing education for registered nurses and surgical technologists for more than 20 years. In partnership with AORN and Pfiedler Enterprises, Ansell is providing funding for three continuing education programs at booth #3823. The three programs -- “Respiratory Safety in Surgery,” “Managing Chemical Allergies,” and “Improving Outcomes in the Operating Room” -- are accredited, evidence-based and peer-reviewed CEUs that target competencies and emerging trends facing OR nurses today.

“At Ansell, we truly believe that continuing education has a significant impact on the knowledge and competency of the nurse clinician, as for all healthcare providers,” says Lopez. “With the healthcare industry constantly changing, it is critically important that professionals stay current and in compliance with changes in laws and regulations, as well as with technological advances.”

Ansell will also reveal for the first time its “SANDEL® SimulatOR,” a new interactive, virtual operating room. The SANDEL SimulatOR provides customers the opportunity to explore a virtual operating room stocked with SANDEL safety products. During this OR experience, individual products can be activated, resulting in animated on-screen demonstrations. In addition, visitors to the booth will have the opportunity to participate in the “Turnover Challenge” game via the SANDEL SimulatOR, to see who can turn over the operating room the quickest and with the least amount of errors.

Also launching at AORN will be the 2nd Annual Ansell H.E.R.O. (Heal, Educate, Reach, Overcome) Nurse Service Award. With the initial launch taking place at last year's conference, the award recognizes nurses who have made lasting impressions on their peers, their patients, their profession, and their communities. Starting March 30, 2014 through April 26, 2014, Americans are invited to nominate their nurse hero online at www.ansellhero.com. On April 27, voting will begin and will continue until May 24. The top 10 nominees with the most votes will receive the H.E.R.O. Nurse Service Award Plaque, nursing reference book of their choice, and have their story profiled online. No purchase necessary.
