Colorado Medical Waste, Inc. was honored at the 10th Annual 2014 Business Recognition Dinner and Award Ceremony on Dec. 4, 2014 at the Aurora Municipal Center in Aurora, Colo.  A video presentation prepared by Aurora’s local Channel 8, was presented along with the award for Environmental Sustainability from George Noe, city manager. The award was accepted by the company’s president, Beverly Hanstrom.

Colorado Medical Waste demonstrates a commitment to energy efficiency, waste diversion, water conservation and social responsibility with sustainable medical waste disposal methods. Using the natural oxidizing power of ozone, electricity and an industrial shredder, waste volume is reduced by 90 percent to a sterile confetti residual with zero emissions as ozone reverts back to oxygen. Tons of medical waste streams are diverted from local landfills, incinerators and hazardous waste facilities across the country.

Hanstrom says, “We are leading the industry and are at the forefront of environmental stewardship to reduce our carbon footprint.”  Accepting the award, Hanstrom thanked the City of Aurora and noted, “This award is a celebration of joint collaboration. We’re all winners.” She asked the audience to bring awareness to the issue by asking their healthcare providers, dentists and veterinarians how they dispose of their medical waste. “Tell your family, friends and neighbors about us. The problem won’t get fixed if no one knows it’s broken.” Hanstrom added, “I was told that medical waste contracts are all about the bottom line. The health of our planet will ultimately affect the quality of our lives. Doesn’t that make us the bottom line?”
