GOJO, Global Thought Leaders Share Future of Healthcare Hand Hygiene Compliance at APIC

The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) is holding its 41st Annual Conference June 7-9, 2014.  GOJO Industries is hosting at the APIC annual meeting the GOJO Interactive Breakfast Symposium: The Present and Future of Hand Hygiene Compliance Measurement: Addressing the Challenge and Opportunities on Saturday, June 7, 2014 from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. at the Hilton Anaheim Pacific.

The keynote speakers are global healthcare leaders in the field of medicine and hand hygiene:
- Didier Pittet, MD, MS, hospital epidemiologist, professor of medicine and director of the infection control programme and WHO Collaborating Centre on Patient Safety at the University of Geneva Hospitals and Faculty of Medicine in Geneva, Switzerland.
- Claire Kilpatrick, RN, PGDip,  who managed the World Health Organization's First Global Patient Safety Challenge and WHO SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands.  She is currently a consultant to the World Health Organization.
- Phil Polgreen, MD, MPH, associate professor of internal medicine and epidemiology at the University of Iowa and leads the Infectious Disease Society of America's Emerging Infections Network.
- William Jarvis, MD, board-certified in pediatrics and board-eligible in pediatric infectious diseases.  He worked at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in a number of leadership roles and established Jason and Jarvis Associates, a consulting company in epidemiology, infectious diseases and HAI prevention and Control.

Moderated by Kelly Pyrek, editor-in-chief of Infection Control Today magazine, the symposium will begin with Pittet presenting the World Health Organization measurement tools for direct observation and the 5 Moments for Hand Hygiene. Kilpatrick will describe new approaches to staff engagement in hand hygiene. Polgreen will provide the audience with information on emerging technologies used to measure hand hygiene electronically including iScrub, Activity Monitoring Systems and Real Time Locator Systems. Jarvis will present lessons from recent studies and discuss accountability in healthcare related to hand hygiene compliance.
