The International Executive Housekeepers Association (IEHA) will release the updated 2nd Edition of Infection Prevention for Dummies® (previously titled "Infection Control for Dummies"® in the first edition, 2008) at ISSA/INTERCLEAN North America 2010 in Orlando, Fla., Nov. 9-12, 2010. For Dummies is a branded imprint of Wiley.
J. Darrel Hicks, REH, past-president of IEHA and director of environmental services at St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield, Mo., authored the 48-page pocket-sized handbook, sponsored by Cintas Corporation, which includes updated information that helps consumers and environmental service professionals identify basic microorganisms, understand infection transmission, use cleaning techniques to keep infection at bay and understand labels and product claims.
"Since infection prevention is such an integral part of the job for cleaning professionals, we felt it was important to release an updated version of the booklet to professionals in the cleaning industry and consumers alike," says Beth Risinger, CEO and executive director of IEHA. "In addition, Integrated Cleaning and Measurement (ICM) is vital to the success of the cleaning industry, since measuring the cleanliness of facilities goes hand-in-hand with infection prevention clean facilities are less prone to infectious outbreaks."
In addition, a new chapter was added to the second edition of the handbook, "Measuring Clean," which explains the need for measuring cleanliness at facilities, how to measure clean and how to implement an Integrated Cleaning and Measurement (ICM) program.
