A new line of antimicrobial linens that inhibit the growth of bacteria on their surface are being introduced by LifeThreads LLC at the Clean Show 2015, booth 4116, at the Georgia World Congress Center. The linen product family includes bed sheets and pillow cases that are made from a new fabric called Grace that is more durable than cotton or filament polyester. Grace fabric is manufactured using a spun polyester process, utilizing spinning technology to change the orientation of the fabric fibers and give the yarn superior characteristics. The fabric maintains the look and feel of cotton and other blends, but will not shrink or lint and is inherently stain resistant.
The linens are treated with a zinc-based active ingredient that has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria concentrations by 99.99 percent in laboratory tests and provides the linens with antimicrobial, antifungal and odor-resistant protection. Specially designed for healthcare environments, LifeThreads’ bed sheets measure 110 by 66 inches and pillow cases measure 20 by 30 inches; both are available in white. The linens are manufactured to withstand more than 200 industrial washing cycles and require no special handling or laundry protocols.
The company’s existing product offerings include antimicrobial professional and patient medical apparel such as lab coats, scrub sets, scrub warm-up jackets and patient gowns.
“LifeThreads’ medical garments already act as an added layer of protection against cross contamination for patients and healthcare providers,” says Karan Jhunjhunwala, founder and CEO of LifeThreads. “Linens are a natural next step in our goal of limiting cross-contamination and fighting these dangerous infections.”
LifeThreads is seeking to revolutionize the healthcare laundry industry by partnering with laundry service providers to offer a holistic linen and garment management solution. Earlier this year, the company announced a partnership with PureTex Solutions, a Florida-based healthcare medical laundry and uniform rental company offering LifeThreads’ products on a rental basis.
