MUNDELEIN, Ill. -- Medline Industries Inc., the nation's largest privately held manufacturer and distributor of healthcare supplies, acquired the assets this week of Canada's largest manufacturer of small procedure trays. The move has cemented Medline's position as the North American leader in sterile nursing/efficiency trays for hospitals and nursing homes. These trays give the clinician all the components they need in an efficient tray to complete a wide range of minor procedures from circumcision to stitches and their removal to IV start kits.
"Medline has been manufacturing and distributing small procedure trays since the 1960s. This acquisition made perfect sense and by broadening our product offering with Meditron's line, we'll provide even greater choice and resources to our customers," said Medline president Andy Mills.
Meditron and its USA division Medcare, provide a wide variety of small procedure trays that will compliment and expand Medline's existing range of standard and custom procedure trays and standard surgical and custom surgical trays. Medline's expert Canadian sales force will help to make the transition seamless for Meditron and Medline customers.
This move marks the second time in two years that Medline has acquired a major medical products company. In 2002, Medline acquired assets of Maxxim Medical, a leading manufacturer and distributor of exam and surgical gloves.
