New Ozone-Based Disinfection Technology Eradicates MRSA From Infected Hospital Rooms

Article

San Francisco-based Medizone International announces that it is using its AsepticSure system at the Quinte Health Care-Belleville General Hospital as part of the facility's management of a recent outbreak of methicilllin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) infections there.  This move comes in the wake of Medizone having previously disinfected several patient care rooms at the facility in as little as 40 minutes treatment-time per room.

Dr. Dick Zoutman, chief of staff at the hospital, notes, "Dr. Michael Shannon and other team members have been performing AsepticSure disinfection treatments at our hospital.  These efforts have proven so successful that we have now fully implemented the AsepticSure protocols into the management of this most recent MRSA outbreak."

Shannon and Zoutman are co-inventors of AsepticSure a new disinfection system that mimics the actions of the human immune system in which antibodies generate ozone and hydrogen peroxide to produce a highly reactive compound called Trioxidane. This compound toxic to bacteria, viruses and mold is temporarily released into sealed hospital rooms in order to kill all pathogens present. The room is then returned to a fresh, clean, safe and residue-free state at the end of the process.

"This has been a long time in coming," says Shannon.  "We have now not only demonstrated the absolute safety of our AsepticSure process in an operational hospital setting, but have also shown its efficacy.  Comparing sampling results before and after several contaminated ward-rooms were treated, we have confirmed that a 100 percent bacterial kill is achievable, without normal ward activities being disrupted. The same microbial kill rates have been repeatedly demonstrated in more controlled laboratory settings.  These results, achieved in a real-world health care setting, are nothing short of spectacular. We consider ourselves privileged to be able to work with staff from one of the finest hospitals in the Province and over time, are now very confident that our process will help make it the cleanest hospital on the continent."

Medizone International, Inc. is engaged in initial production of its modular design AsepticSure® Decontamination Systems. Decontamination to the sterilization standard of >6 log (99.9999 percent) is obtainable within hospitals, airlines, cruise ships, long term care facilities, food processing plants, clean room manufacturing facilities, schools and other critical infrastructure.
