Pest-control company Orkin Commercial Services, has posted a series of free, online videos that help healthcare providers identify and prevent a bedbug infestation – an increasing problem in healthcare facilities. The videos are taken from Orkin’s presentation at the American Society for Healthcare Environmental Services (ASHES) annual conference, “Pulling Back the Sheets on the Bed Bugs Controversy.”
In the videos, Orkin entomologist William Lawrence, PhD, BCE, explains the basics of bedbug behavior; options for monitoring, prevention and treatment in healthcare facilities; and how the healthcare industry can develop a plan to protect against bedbugs.
“Bedbugs have staged a real comeback over the past decade and healthcare professionals are eager to find comprehensive information on how to help prevent them,” said ASHES executive director Patti Costello. “We asked Orkin to share their insights at the ASHES conference so healthcare professionals could gain a better understanding of the practical issues and solutions surrounding these persistent pests.”
“Orkin works with thousands of healthcare and long-term care facilities, and from our experience, early detection is vital,” said Lawrence. “Bedbugs are extremely difficult to control once established in a facility, so continuous inspection and monitoring are fundamental parts of any program.”
Healthcare professionals can access the educational videos in the “Healthcare section of orkincommercial.com, under the “Solutions” tab. Following the ASHES Annual Conference, Orkin also distributed a complimentary white paper with additional bedbug management recommendations, available for download at http://www.ashes.org/and on http://www.healthcarepestcontrol.com/, an online resource center for healthcare pest management.
