Pharmacy OneSource, software-as-a-service provider of Sentri7, a Web-based, real-time infection prevention surveillance, documentation and reporting system, announces a complimentary webinar, "Sepsis Management: The Latest Evidence-Based Practice," presented by Kirsten Pyle-Springer, RN, CCRN.

Sepsis is the body's response to infection. The forms of sepsis include severe sepsis, which occurs when acute organ dysfunction or failure results, and septic shock, which occurs in severe sepsis when the cardiovascular system begins to fail, depriving vital organs of an adequate oxygenated blood supply.

In 2004, the Surviving Sepsis Campaign guidelines were developed to improve the management, diagnosis, and treatment of sepsis. The guidelines aim to reduce mortality from sepsis via a multi-point strategy. In this webinar, Pyle-Springer will present case reviews on handling sepsis.

The Webinar will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. EDT. To register, visit http://www.sentri7.com

Pyle-Springer has spent her 27-year nursing career devoted to critical care and performance improvement. She currently works in the surgical/neuro/trauma ICU at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, Calif., where she splits her time between the bedside and outcomes management, and serving as the sepsis coordinator. She has been extensively involved in critical care-related education, locally and nationally since 1988 and has been a critical care consultant since 2003. She is currently on the board of directors of the Greater Long Beach and Orange County chapter of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and has several national advisory board appointments.
