Rush University Hosts Symposium for Nurses with Disabilities

Article

CHICAGO -- Officials at The Rush University College of Nursing are hosting a two-day conference April 10-11 to discuss improving the nursing field for employees with disabilities.

"Nursing has traditionally been a career requiring considerable physical strength," says Kathleen G. Andreoli, DSN, RN, FAAN, dean and vice president of academic nursing affairs at Rush. "However, much of what the modern nurse accomplishes is done through cognitive function -- assessment, problem solving, education, counseling and evaluation."

Officials invited to debate the topic at the conference, themed "Students with Disabilities: Nursing Education and Practice," include: nurse educators, licensure and certification experts, healthcare administrators, legal and health policy experts and officers of disability-rights organizations.
