STERIS Corporation Contributes $5K to CHESP Scholarship

Article

STERIS Corporation, a platinum sponsor of the American Society for Healthcare Environmental Services (ASHES) of the American Hospital Association (AHA) today contributed $5,000 to the ASHES Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) Scholarship Fund. The donation comes with a challenge to other companies to match this contribution in the interest of supporting the advancement and credentialing of these professionals. All individuals are also encouraged to make a contribution to the fund.

"STERIS recognizes the critical role environmental services professionals play in hand hygiene compliance, environmental cleaning and infection prevention in healthcare facilities. We are committed to supporting the profession through education and the promotion of best practices," said Charles Kilfoyle, senior product manager for STERIS. "What better way to demonstrate that commitment than by funding scholarships for the achievement of the CHESP credential, the profession's mark of distinction for environmental services?"

"In this challenging economy, ASHES is honored and grateful for this contribution and excited that so many more professionals will be given an opportunity to apply for the examination," said Patti Costello, executive director of ASHES. "Delivering high quality healthcare requires highly qualified people and we applaud STERIS's commitment to excellence. We join them in challenging others to also contribute to the fund."

The scholarship drive will end on Sept. 23, 2009, just before the end of the ASHES conference. Corporate and individual contributors will be acknowledged on the ASHES Web site. Those interested in contributing can visit the ASHES Web site at http://www.ashes.org or call (312) 422-3860.
