STERIS Corporation Joins Practice Greenhealth

Article

STERIS Corporation, a leading global provider of advanced infection prevention, surgical, GI and perioperative workflow solutions, has formally committed to ongoing environmental stewardship by joining Practice Greenhealth, a national membership health organization supporting environmental best practices. In addition, STERIS announced it has reached an agreement to be the host sponsor of CleanMed 2014, the premier conference on environmental sustainability for the healthcare sector.

STERIS has a long history of product development that incorporates lean manufacturing and environmentally sound principles and features to help our Customers reduce their environmental footprint and waste, says Cary Majors, vice president of sales and marketing strategy for the STERIS Healthcare Group. For example, we continue to develop systems and consumables that help reduce utility and water use, and we offer paperless workflow management and documentation options, among many other initiatives. We look forward to joining other healthcare colleagues to advance our collective sustainability efforts, and to making use of Practice Greenhealth resources to expand our own environmental contributions.

Tim Chapman, senior vice president and president of the STERIS Healthcare Group, adds, We are very pleased to be the host sponsor of the CleanMed2014 conference in Cleveland. Since Cleveland is STERISs home town, we felt it was a great opportunity to not only increase awareness of our stewardship efforts, but to also help introduce the remarkable, state-of-the-art Global Center for Health Innovation to the world.

CleanMed is presented annually by Practice Greenhealth and Health Care without Harm. The conference attracts industry leaders, convening healthcare professionals, university researchers, designers and vendors of cleaner and safer products and services. The event will be held at the Global Center for Health Innovation June 2-5, 2014. Located in downtown Cleveland, this Global Center is the only facility in the world that displays the future of health and healthcare on four themed floors. This LEED Certified Silver building will be opening to the public in October 2013.

Practice Greenhealth provides practical guidance, training, consultation, and business solutions to help its members implement environmentally responsible practices. More than 1000 healthcare providers have joined this organization since 2008, indicating the healthcare communitys commitment to reducing its environmental impact.

We are pleased to welcome STERIS Corporation to the Practice Greenhealth member community, says Laura Wenger, executive director of Practice Greenhealth. Their membership demonstrates a significant commitment to reducing their environmental impact, and to helping their healthcare customers do the same.

Practice Greenhealth offers a variety of programs to its hospitals and business members, including environmental purchasing, sustainable operations, continuing education, webinars, networking opportunities, communication resources, and an annual awards program recognizing member achievements. CleanMed attracts leading healthcare providers, researchers, facility designers and vendors of products and services from across the industry. CleanMed2014 will offer more than 50 education sessions and presentations covering a wide range of topics, from incorporating sustainability strategies into daily hospital operations to new trends in greening the healthcare sector.
