Tru-D SmartUVC to Exhibit Clinically-Validated UV Disinfection Robot at AORN Expo

Article

Tru-D SmartUVC will exhibit its patented "smart" technology at the Association for Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Surgical Conference and Expo in Boston, April 2-4, 2017 at booth #1748. In addition to exhibiting and attending the AORN Surgical Conference, Tru-D has proudly joined the 2500 Club as a sponsor of the AORN Foundation. The industry standard in advocating for excellence in perioperative practice and health care, AORN provides perioperative nurses with education and resources for safe clinical practice and professional development.

"Hospital-acquired infections including surgical-site infections continue to be top-of-mind for patient safety and care in healthcare facilities," said Chuck Dunn, president and CEO of Tru-D SmartUVC. "Tru-D has been validated to reduce the risk of infection by the only randomized clinical trial on UV disinfection, and we are excited to share the study's results and our technology with attendees of AORN."

The recently-published Benefits of Enhanced Terminal Room-Disinfection (BETR-D) study which was funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Epicenter Program and conducted across the Duke Infection Control Outreach Network proved that Tru-D is able to reduce the risk of infection of C. diff, MRSA, VRE and Acinetobacter among patients admitted to the same room by a cumulative 30 percent. Conducted throughout nine hospitals for a total of 600,000 room stays and more than 22,000 Tru-D cycles completed, the BETR-D randomized clinical trial is the most comprehensive study on UV disinfection to date.

"Tru-D is the only 'smart' UV disinfection robot with patented Sensor360 technology that can guarantee a baseline of disinfection and thorough operating room disinfection with every cycle," said Dunn. "Tru-D's basis of scientific evidence and widespread adoption throughout prestigious hospital systems continues to drive market acceptance of UV disinfection technology."

Tru-D is deployed in hospital and operating rooms after an environmental services member cleans the area with traditional cleaning methods. Using chemical-free UVC energy, Tru-D operates from a single position and administers a single cycle of UV light, easily integrating into a hospital's existing workflow with minimal labor impact. Through the use of its patented Sensor360 technology, Tru-D analyzes the space including size, shape and contents, to deliver a precise, lethal dose of UV light, achieving significant pathogen reduction in the room. While the cycle is being performed, operators are free to tend to other tasks and are alerted via audio and/or text message when disinfection is complete.
